Harry Kane will Captain England at the 2018 World Cup

Gareth Southgate, the England manager, has announced that Tottenham Hotspur’s striker Harry Kane will be the captain of the England squad at the World Cup in Russia.

Kane has been the England captain on four previous occasions – he first captained the England squad just under a year ago, in the World Cup qualifier against Scotland, the match ended 2-2.

The 24-year-old has scored 12 times in 23 appearances for England since making his international debut against Lithuania in March 2015. He found the back of the net 41 times in all competitions during the 2017/18 season.

In the last international competition Kane failed to impress, but Euro 2016 was 2 years ago and Kane has more international experience behind him. England were knocked out of Euro 2016 by Iceland.

England will meet Nigeria at Wembley stadium on the 2nd June in an international friendly in the run up to the 2018 World Cup. Five days later the Three Lions will meet Costa Rica at Elland road. England’s first World Cup match will be on the 18th June when they meet Tunisia.

England were drawn in Group G along with Tunisia, Panama and Belgium.

Kane is 5/4 to be England’s top goalscorer in Russia and England are 11/5 to be eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the World Cup.

England’s World Cup Squad Named: Who Will Be The Captain for the Opening Game Against Tunisia?

England World Cup BettingGareth Southgate named the England squad on 16 May. The team consists of a mixture of the tried and trusted and the young bloods. England’s 2018 World Cup campaign kicks of in Russia on the 18th June, but who will be the captain of the first game against Tunisia?

Who will be England’s captain?

The captain of the England squad is yet to be announced, but it appears to be a straight choice bewteen Kane and Henderson, who offer differing qualities.

Kane is England’s main striker, the man who will lead from the front and by example, a modest but powerful personality who will be keen to make up for his disappointment at Euro 2016.

Henderson, meanwhile, has developed into a top-class captain at Liverpool as they have reached the Champions League final. He also did himself great credit as captain on and off the field in the March international break.

Kane is still favourite, the bookies are backing Kane to be the captain of the first World Cup match. He’s the 8/13 favourite at 888sport (odds correct 18th May 2018).

Betting Odds for Captain of England vs Tunisia

Harry Kane: 8/13
Jordan Henderson: 7/2
Eric Dier: 4/1
Gary Cahill: 16/1
John Stones: 33/1

England World Cup: Betting Odds, Fixtures, Squad, Injuries & Group Info

England World Cup BettingEverything You Need to Know About England’s World Cup Russia 2018 Campaign – Fixtures, Squad, How they Fair in Group G and the Best Betting Odds

England’s 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign for Russia got of to a rocky start when Sam Allaryce left after the first match, but under Gareth Southgate they have been characteristically steady and even posted the best defensive record in the European qualifying section. They let in just 3 goals in ten matches (the first of these was in the match against Slovakia under Allardyce.)

Whilst they have the best defensive record in England and Harry Kane has scored 1 in 2 games during qualifying the expectations for England are not high. This might be a good thing as expectations for previous World Cups and European championships have left fans and punters disappointed.

England should have no trouble qualifying from group G, which also features Belgium, Panama and Tunisia, but in the round of 16 they will probably face Columbia or Senegal. Colombia and Senegal, whilst not expected by the bookies to win the World Cup will give England a run for their money.

An exit prior to the quarter-finals will be seen as a failure for the English squad but if the Three Lions make the semi-finals it will be incredible since they meet Columbia or Senegal. The last two World Cups have seen England departs before the quarter-finals and they haven’t made the semi-finals since 1990, when the finished fourth.

Obviously England won the World Cup in 1966, and winning the 2018 World Cup would be amazing but they will face teams that are ranked much higher by ELO and FIFA. A win would be spectacular but highly improbable.

Southgate was training the under 21’s team and many of them can be expected to be being primed for the 2022 World Cup. If you are going to back England to win a World Cup, maybe make it the 2022 one?

Which World Cup Group were England Drawn in?

England were drawn in group G, and will play alongside Belgium, Tunisia and Panama.

What are the England Fixtures?

Belgium meet Tunisia on the 18th June at the Volograd followed by Panama on June 24th. England will meet Belgium for their third and final group match on June 28th.

World Cup Record

England won the 1966 World Cup, and many fans have been expecting England to bring football home for years! The Three Lions have qualified for the last 5 world cups (they failed to qualify in 1994), making the quarter finals twice (2002, 2006), the last 16 twice (1998, 2010) and the group stage in 2014. Can they make it to the semi-finals this time?

Prediction – Will England win the 2018 World Cup in Russia?

Expectations are not as high for England as they once were. Punters expect Engand to finish second in the group behind Belgium and then possibly edge past Columbia or Senegal in the round of 16. if they do that they will probably face Germany in the quarter-finals.

Germany are one of the best teams in the World, the defending champions. If England were to win a match against Germany, make the semi-finals…anything could happen…they could win the world cup…but can the win against Germany? We predict that England will be knocked out at the quarter-finals.

They have only ever progressed further than the quarter-finals on 2 occasions (1966 – winners & 1990 – fourth place).

Betting Odds for Stage of Elimination
A popular betting market for the English Team is the round that they will be eliminated. What round will England be eliminated from the 2018 world cup? The odds are below:

Round of 16: 11/5
Quarter-finals: 11/5
Group Stage: 5/1
Semi-Finals: 5/1

Winner: 18/1

The bookies are predicting England to be eliminated at the round of 16 or maybe the quart-finals. The odds above were available at bet365 on the 9th May 2018.

Who Will Score the Most Goals for England in Russia 2018?

Harry Kane is Englands’ top goal scorer, the bookies have him at odds of 11/10 to be England’s top goal scorer. Behind him are Raheem Sterling, Jamie Vardy, Marcus Rashford and Deli Ali.

Harry Kane: 11/10
Raheem Sterling: 6/1
Jamie Vardy: 9/1
Marcus Rashford: 8/1

Who Are the Favourites to Win Group G?

Belgium and England are both fancied to qualify from Group G at World Cup 2018. The two teams are expected to be fighting to be group G winners. Belgium and England are both well clear of Tunisia and Panama in the FIFA and ELO rankings. Panama are making there debut on the World Cup stage and Tunisia have qualified for the first World Cup tournament in 12 years.

When you look at the bookies odds Belgium are the slight favourites to be Group G winners with Belgium priced at odds of 5/6 and England priced at 6/5 (odds correct 7th May 2018 at bet365).

Looking at ELO rankings England (ELO 7) are 2 places ahead of Belgium (ELO 9). But when looking at the FIFA rankings Belgium are third and England are down in 13th. If FIFA rankings are to be believed then Belgium will beat England hands down.

Belgium have been heralded as a rising team for a few years now. They reached the quarter finals of Brazil 2014 and Euro 2016 in France. During qualification they lost just 2 points in ten matches scring 43 times in the process. Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku netted 11 of those goals, while Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard provided six goals and five assists. Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Napoli’s Dries Mertens provide more creative flair going forward and this could be the opportunity for Belgium’s golden generation to sparkle.

England also sailed trough the qualification process, coming away with eight wins and two draws. England conceded just 3 goals. England exited Euro 2016 to Iceland and weren’t too hot in Brazil in 2014 meaning they once again have much to prove in Russia this time out. Harry Kane will be relied upon to score the goals and improve England’s performance at their sixth consecutive world cup appearance.

Who will the winner of Group G face?

The winner of group G will face groups H’s runner up. Current odds suggest that will be Poland or Columbia.

Who will the runner up of Group G face?

The runner up of Group G will meet the Winner of group H at Otkrytiye Arena. It’s looking like a clash between England and Columbia.

England will be hoping to get their World Cup campaign off to a winning start.

Captain Harry Kane will fancy himself to score against Tunisia, coming off the back of another wonderful goalscoring season with Tottenham.

Tunisia vs England match preview
England’s World Cup campaign gets underway on Monday when they take on Tunisia at the Volgograd Arena.

England qualified for the World Cup as winners of Group F, winning 8 and drawing 2 of their 10 matches, conceding just three in the process. England won both of their warm-up matches, beating Nigeria 2-1 before their 2-0 win over Costa Rica.

Gary Cahill, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford and Danny Welbeck all netted for England over the two matches.

England are unbeaten in 10 matches since last year’s 3-2 defeat to France.

Tunisia qualified for the World Cup as winners of Group A in the CAF Third Round, finishing above DR Congo, Libya and Guinea.

Nabil Maaloul’s side failed to win any of their three preparation matches. Tunisia came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Portugal before earning the same result against Turkey. Tunisia were beaten 1-0 in their final warm-up match against Spain.

Perhaps no team has as much pressure on their shoulders at this World Cup as England.

Players such as Raheem Sterling have been scrutinised both on and off the pitch, and there will be no holding back if Gareth Southgate’s side fail to deliver on the field.

England’s last World Cup match against North-African opposition resulted in the infamous 0-0 draw with Algeria in Cape Town.

England, whose only World Cup win came in 1966, finished bottom of their group in 2014.

Group G’s other sides Belgium and Panama face each other earlier in the day.
