What is the draw for the Scottish League Cup?

The draw determines the group in which each of the 40 Scottish teams will play in at the start of the tournament. The teams are divided into eight groups of five teams on a regionalised basis. Any teams playing in Europe join the competition at a later stage.

The Forty clubs are involved in the draw – the 38 SPFL clubs from 2018/19 who are not participating in European competitions in the forthcoming season plus Lowland League champions East Kilbride and Highland League winners Cove Rangers.

The draw will produce eight groups of five teams on a regionalised basis. The four north and four south groups will each be made up of a first seed, a second seed and three unseeded clubs, with seeding based on league positions at the end of season 2018/19.

The format sees all drawn group stage matches go straight to a penalty shoot-out, with the winners earning a bonus point in addition to the point given to each team for a draw.

The eight group winners and four best runners-up progress to the last 16 of the competition where they are joined by any teams playing in Europe.

The full group stage fixture list, including BT Sport live TV selections, will be confirmed in due course, with ties to be played on the following dates:

Rangers, who have won the title 27 times are the record holders. Celtic are second with 18 wins from 33 appearances.

Betting on the SLC

Traditionally the competition is more renowned for shocks than the Scottish Cup as the Old Firm sides used to play weaker sides in the earlier rounds of the tournament, but now Celtic and Rangers tends to play in Europe so don;t enter the competition until the later rounds.

Excellent value can be found when betting on some of the SPL teams. Man punters enjoy a bet on it over other Scottish football due to the unpredictability of the early rounds.
