Portugal stunned everyone 2 years ago by winning Euro 2016. They started there campaign as sixth favourite behind England but went on to win the tournament. Other than Christiano Ronaldo the team wasn’t full of Europe’s best talents and it wasn’t Portugal’s best ever team in the last 20 years. Heading into the 2018 World Cup, Portugal will have the same strategy as they did for Euro 2016, hope that Ronaldo Produces.

Portugal kicked off their 2018 international friendlies in March, winning one and losing one. They face Tunisia, one of England’s group opponents at the end of May followed by Belgium and Algeria.

Since 1934 (they didn’t enter in 1930), Portugal have only qualified 6 times. This is the fifth consecutive year they have qualified. There best result was in 1966 when they came third. Last time out in 2014 they were eliminated at the group stage, 2010 saw them eliminated in the last 16, 2006 they came fourth and 2002 they didn’t make it past the group stage.


Whilst they one won Euro 2016, 2 years ago it’s predicted that they will finish just behind Spain in the group B, then will lose to ether Uruguay in the last 16 or France in the Quarter-Finals.

The main man in Portugal’s team is of course Christiano Ronaldo, he is Portugals all-time top scorer finding the net 15 times i nince games during qualification for this tournement. If Portugal make it to the last eight, Ronaldo and Messi might meet in a fixture with Argentina. The two players have never met in a World Cup fixure before.
