Craig Levein’s Hearts will attempt to become the first team in 27 matches to inflict a domestic cup loss on Celtic, who are in pursuit of a treble treble, on 25 May.

Midlothian to beat Celtic is 15/2 and Celtic to win the match is 4/11. The draw is priced at 15/4.

Celtic are the bookies 2/11 favourites to lift the trophy and win a third title on the bounce and their 39th FA Cup title, with Hearts who were winner last in 2012 are priced at 7/2 to get their 9th title.

The fixture is in fact a repeat of the finals in 1901, 1907 and 1956. Of these three previous meetings in the final, Heart of Midlothian had won two, and Celtic one.

When the clubs met in the finals of 1901 it was a 4–3 win for Hearts, 1907 it ended 3–0 for Celtic and 1956 it was a 3–1 win for Hearts.

A repeat 4-3 win for hearts would be 300/1, 3-0 for Celtic is 8/1 and a 3-1 win for Hearts is 50/1.

At the time of writing, the last time they played each other was in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic won the match 2-1. A 2-1 win for Celtic is 13/2. The teams are set to play each other again on the 19th may, just 6 days before the Scotish FA Cup final.

These odds were found at bet365 and were correct at the time of writing (16th May 2019). bet365 are our favourite bookmaker for betting on the Scottish FA Cup Final.

Premier League Football: Ups, downs & European qualification 2018-2019

Premier LeagueWe outline the battles for promotion and relegation – and the race for European qualification – in England’s Premier League.

28 April: Sheffield United promoted to Premier League
27 April: Norwich promoted to Premier League

European Qualification

Four teams can qualify for the group stage of the 2019-2020 Champions League. Liverpool and Manchester City have already qualified – Tottenham and Chelsea are also in with a chance of qualifying for Europe if things go there way this coming weekend.

It is possible for clubs outside the top four to qualify for a spot in Europe, but no country can have more than five teams in the Champions League. Should English teams win both competitions but both finish outside the top four, the fourth placed team will qualify for the Europa league instead.

The fifth-placed Premier League side qualify for the Europa League group stage, as do the FA Cup winners.

As Manchester City have already qualified for the Champions League, as they won the Carabao Cup, the sixth placed team will also be able to play in the Europa League; they will enter at the second qualifying round.

If Watford win the FA Cup, they will qualify for the Europa League. The FA Cup winner also qualifies for a spot in Europe. If Man City win, it will revert to the premier league and the seventh placed team will enter the Europa League.

At this stage, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are certain of at least a Europa League spot.

Odds on Man City & Liverpool to Win the Premier League
Man City are the bookies 1/5 favourites to win the 2018-2019 premier league with Liverpool priced at 7/2 to come from behind. These odds were correct at the time of writing on 30th April and were a found at bet365, our favourite bookmaker for betting on the premier league outright winner.

Both teams have won there last five matches. Liverpool face Newcastle who have are currently in 13 place and Wolves who are in 7th place.

Norwich City clinched promotion to the Premier League on 27 April with a 2-1 win over Blackburn and will be champions if they avoid defeat in their final game.

Sheffield United claimed the second automatic promotion spot after they beat Ipswich 2-0 on 27 April and third-placed Leeds drew with Aston Villa a day later.

Leeds United will contest the play-offs with West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and one team from Derby, Middlesbrough and Bristol City.

Relegation to the Championship

Thee bottom three teams will be relegated to the Championship. Huddersfield Town confirmed their relegation on 30 March after a 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace and they were joined by Fulham three days later after the Cottagers lost 4-1 at Watford.

The final relegation place is between Brighton and Cardiff. Goal difference means that realistically, Cardiff will go down unless they win their last two games and Brighton take no more than one point from their last two.

Cardiff are the bookies favourites to be relegated from the League with odds of 1/66 available, Leeds are also a possible team that will get relegated – odds of 20/1 are available.

These odds were correct at the time of writing on 30th April and were a found at bet365, our favourite bookmaker for betting on the premier league outright winner.

Who Will Win the 2019 Copa America?

The 2019 Copa America, South America’s international competition, gets underway in just under 2 months and we consider who will win the tournament.

The Copa America is the oldest international tournament in the world and is played between the 10 South American nations and invited teams.

Who will play who in the Copa America?

All ten CONMEBOL teams are taking part in the competition along with the two Asian sides, Japan and Qatar.

The groups were drawn back in January, with Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil being the seeded teams. The three groups are:

  • Group A: Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Peru
  • Group B: Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Qatar
  • Group C: Uruguay, Ecuador, Japan, Chile

Who Has Won Previously?

8 of the 10 CONMBEOL sides have had success since the inaugural tournament back in 1916. Uruguay, with 15 titles are the most successful Copa América team. Argentina has 14 titles and Brazil, eight. The other former champions, with two titles each are Paraguay, Peru and Chile. Bolivia, and Colombia, have each won one the competition once. Equador and Venezula are the two CONMEBOL teams who are still looking for success at the tournament. Japan and Qatar have never won the Copa America.

Chile head into the tournament as two time defending champions, after winning in 2015 and 2011 – will they win a third title?

It is the centenary of Brazil win back in 1919. Can the 2019 hosts repeat history 100 years later?

Who are the Favourites?

In order to make it to the final the teams must make it out of their groups, and win the respective quarter and semi final matches.

The top two in each group, plus the two best third-placed teams, qualify for the knockout stage which begins in the quarter-finals. Then it’s a straight knockout to the final on 7 July.

We take a look at each of the 12 teams.

Argentina
Argentina have won the tournament 14 times but not since 1993. They have reached the last two finals of the Copa America and lost both times on penalties. Another loss would extend a trophy drought that stretches back to 1993.

The side desperate for a major title after a long trophy drought were drawn for the 2019 Copa America against Colombia, Paraguay and invited team Qatar.

Lionel Messi will probably be going to Brazil. The Barcelona forward took a sabbatical from international soccer after a disappointing World Cup in Russia and wasn’t sure if he would play in the Copa America, but Lionel Scaloni believes it’s ‘evident’ Messi, will play. If Messi does play it will be superb for Argentina.

Bolivia
La Verde won the competition once back in 1963. They are currently 63rd in FIFA’s ranking table and are not expected to perform brilliantly at the tournament.

Brazil
Despite not winning the competition for 12 years, and only being third most successful team they head into the 2019 Copa America one of the favourites for the competition. Why are they one of the favourites? Well, apart from being the 3rd best team in the World according to FIFA they are this years hosts and Brazil have won every year that they have hosted the competition. Another reason for optimism is that they have a squad containing the likes of Neymar, Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Jesus.

Brazil have won 8 Copa America titles, the last being in 2007 (1919, 1922, 1949, 1989, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2007).

The hosts have been handed a kind draw ahead of home tournament, The Selecao will face Peru, Venezuela and Bolivia. However, the team will be under huge pressure to win on home soil and deliver some silverware after they were knocked out the World Cup at the quarter-final stage last year.

Neymar, the Paris Saint-Germain forward, who has been sidelined since January, has started playing again and boss Tite has no concerns over his fitness and has said that he is expected to be “in better condition at the Copa America than he was in the World Cup”.

Chile
Whilst Chile have won the past two tournaments, they have slipped to 13 in the world rankings, the fifth CONMEBOL team on the list, they do not head into the tournament as favourites. After having success on the international stage for a few years they failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Many of Chile’s star players are out of favour at the moment, however 10 of their 11 most capped players still active, all of those previous winners, and the majority of their two-time triumphant team still intact, they remain contenders. Winning a third tournament on the bounce seems unlikely.

Colombia
Los Cafeteros won the 2001 edition when they defeated Mexico (a CONCACAF invitee). They recentl lost to South Korea but in March the beat Japan 1-0.

Ecuador
Can Hernán Darío Gómez lead Ecuadr to there first Copa America title? There best performance has been a fourth place win.

Japan
Japan have played in the Copa before – failing to navigate their group in 1999. They have lost there last 3 matches so they don’t seem to be in great form.

Paraguay
Paraguay have won the competition on two occasion, the last time was back in 1979. They are currently ranked 36 according to FIFA, almost at the bottom of the CONMOBOL teams. They did reach the final in 2011, but since then they have deteriorated making the semi-finals in 2015 and not making it out of the group stage in 2016. They have lost all five of their last friendlies.

Peru
Peru have won the competition twice, but in the last edition they didn’t make it last the quarter finals and at the 2018 World Cup they didn’t make it out of the group. They did recently beat Paraguay in a friendly.

Qatar
Qatar are making their debut appearance in the competition. They have recently won the Asian Cup so they are in good form.

Uruguay
Uruguay’s 2011 win was a record 15th success. They are in great form winning their last two matches, in the China Cup. Pereiro and Stuani both scored goals in these matches.

One of the top three top seeds Uruguay are in perhaps the most difficult Group C, along with the invited side Japan, plus Ecuador and reigning champions Chile.

In the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking they climbed one rung to sixth, just one short of their highest 2018 placing. They will go into the competition full of confidence, having just retained the China Cup, thanks to emphatic 3-0 and 4-0 wins over Uzbekistan and Thailand respectively.

They call on a hugely experienced core of players who are at the peak of their physical and mental powers. Diego Godin became the country’s most capped player of all time, with 126 appearances at the China Cup. Fernando Muslera has kept goal at the last three FIFA World Cup™ competitions, while Luis Suarez’s Celeste career now spans 12 years, just one more than those of Edinson Cavani, Martin Caceres and Nicolas Lodeiro.

They have spent the last year working on a fresh tactical approach, one they hope to showcase to great effect at the Copa America. Will Uruguay be the winners in 2019?

Venezuela
La Vinotinto are yet win the competition, they did recently win a friendly against Argentina, which suggests that they could do well this year, however they then played a friendly against Catalonia and lost. They have a few friendlies to play before kick off so we’ll see how they do before we put any money on them to win.

Which Country has Won the most Copa America Titles?

Copa America 2019The 46th edition of South America’s international competition, The Copa America, gets underway in just under 2 months and we take a look at the national teams who have had most success at the tournament. We take a look at who won the last edition.

Chile are the two time defending champions heading into the tournament after winning the most recent competition, hosted by the United States in 2016 and the 2015 edition.

With 15 titles Uruguay is the most successful Copa América team. Argentina has 14 titles and Brazil, eight. The other former champions are Paraguay, Peru and Chile, with two titles each, and Bolivia, and Colombia, who have each won one.

Equador and Venezula are the two CONMEBOL teams who are still looking for success at the tournament. This years edition sees, the two Asian sides, Japan and Qatar take place, neither team have ever won the Copa America.

Since 1993, the tournament has generally featured 12 teams – all 10 CONMEBOL teams and two additional teams from other confederations, generally teams from North & Central America and the Caribbean. But non of these sides have ever won. Mexico who have participated in every tournament since 1993, have finished as runner-ups twice – these two finishes are the highest for a non-CONMEBOL side.

We take a closer look at the sides who have won previously.

Argentina
The Argentinians first appeared at the competition in the inaugural year, 1916 and have made a total of
41 appearances. They have been very successful in the Copa América, winning it 14 times, being second only to Uruguay in Copa América victories. The last victory in the competition was in 1993. They have been runners up in the last four out of five competitions.

Best result: Champions in 1921, 1925, 1927, 1929, 1937, 1941, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1991 and 1993.

Bolivia
Bolivia have made 26 appearances since they first took part in the Copa America in 2926. La Verde have lifted the Copa America trophy just once, back in 1963. The win came on home soil, in one of the competition’s most memorable tournaments, with 91 goals scored for an average of just over four per game.

In 1997, when Bolivia hosted the competition for a second time they were runners up in the competition. Sadly every year since this they have only made it past group 1 on one occasion. This was in 2015, in Chile when they made it to the quarter finals.

In general they don’t do very well on the international stage.

Brazil
Unlike Brazil who do exceptionally well on the world stage. Despite consistently producing world class players such as Pele, and winning the World Cup more often than any other side they are third in the list of most successful teams when it comes to the Copa America. They been champions 8 times, the last success came in 2007. They have won on every edition when they have been hosts. They were champions in 1919, 1922, 1949, 1989, 1997, 1999, 2004 and 2007. They have appeared in the in the inaugural competition in 1916 and have played a total of 35 times.

Chile
Chile have played in 38 Copa America tournaments but have only won twice. They are however the two time defending champions having won the 2016 and 2015 editions.

In the 2015 Copa América, La Roja reached the final for the first time in 29 years when they defeated Argentina on penalties (4–1) after a 0–0 draw, to win their first Copa America title.

In January 2016, just six months after winning the 2015 Copa America, a new manager, the Argentinean Juan Antonio Pizzi, led them to a second victory after again beating Argentina in the final.

Colombia
The 2001 Copa América was the first Copa América held in Colombia and Comombia went on to win the competition. Being held on Columbian soil there were some concerns over potential security issues, teams dropping out and new ones being hastily recruited to replace the teams Comubia may have had an easy ride in the competition. Between 2002 and 2010 Columbia didn;t do too well on the international stage but in the 2011 made a good run topping their group and achieving a draw to the host nation Argentina, who were the favourites. But they were eliminated in the quarter finals. In 2016 they won the third-place match against the United States to seal their best result since winning the 2001 tournament.

Ecuador
Have made 27 appearances, the first in 1939 at the Copa America. There best results were in 1959 and 1993 when they finished in fourth place. They are one of two countries in South America not to have won the Copa América, the other being Venezuela.

Paraguay
The Albirroja are a regular participant at the competition, and they have been crowned champions on two occasions (in 1953 and 1979). They reached the final in 2011 but finished as runners-up. In 2015 they reached the semi-finals but didn’t make it past the group stage in 2016.

Peru
Peru has won the Copa América twice, in 1939 and 1975 despite making 29 appearances at the competition. In recent years they have earned third place in 2011 and 2015. They reached the quarterfinals of the Copa América Centenario.

Uruguay
La Celeste (The Sky Blue) have won the Copa América 15 times, the most successful national team in the tournament, the most recent title being the 2011 edition. At recent tournaments in 2015 and 2016 they missed banned striker Luis Suárez, and were eliminated in the quarter-finals and group stages respectively.

Venezuela
La Vinotinto have appeared at 16 Copa America, their best performance came in 2011 under Rafael Dudamel era where they finished fourth. They are yet to be crowned champions or make it past the quarter finals.
